Any corrupt officer does huge damage to the 140,000 officers that every day, go out to deliver policing with commitment and integrity
Speaking after an open meeting with Police Federation members in London, ACPO president Sir Hugh Orde today said:
“Police officers take enormous pride in the job that they do, 24/7, working to keep the public safe. Any corrupt officer does huge damage to the 140,000 officers that every day, go out to deliver that service with commitment and integrity. There is zero tolerance of individuals who choose to take money from those seeking to obtain information unlawfully. And let me be clear, there is no circumstances in which it is acceptable for an officer to take money for information. It is against the law.
“The police service is a highly accountable organisation and what we saw yesterday was senior police officers explaining actions and decisions that they took, and being open and transparent about where things could and should have been done differently. We support the inquiry that will look at what went wrong in this case and the police service will take part in whatever capacity necessary to assist in that inquiry.”
