ACPO comments on research for the Police Federation into policing priorities conducted by Ipsos MORI
ACPO lead for workforce development, Chief Constable Peter Fahy, said:
“This research shows the high regard in which the public hold policing and the range of services that modern policing provides. While recognising this, we understand that all public services, including health and social care services and the armed forces, are operating in a tightened financial environment.
“Police chiefs were allocated their budgets in December for the coming four years and will get on with delivering the best service they can within the resources available. ACPO believes there are things that can be done differently to make savings, including reducing bureaucracy and further collaboration between forces.
“However, there is a limit to the value that these efficiency savings can release. There will be tough choices for chief constables, local and national politicians and the public in the coming period to understand the limit to the service that the police can continue to deliver sustainably.”
