ACPO responds to the Government's decision to review police pay and conditions
ACPO president Sir Hugh Orde said:
“ACPO strongly supports the need for a review of pay terms and conditions. I am pleased to see that the terms of reference for this review recognise the unique status of police as office holders who must be available to respond to need at any time and have no ability to strike.
“Chief officers are absolutely committed to doing all they can to ensure that front line policing services are protected. We believe that the development of a modern pay and reward framework is essential and timely.
“What is required is a scheme that treats officers fairly and recognises their hard work, while providing chief officers with the critical flexibility to respond to the current financial challenges. Such an overhaul can help keep the public safe and reduce the impact on the numbers of officers and staff they are able to employ.”
