ACPO responds to a Written Ministerial Statement in which ACPO guidance on police pursuits is issued as a statutory code of practice
ACPO lead for police pursuits, Assistant Chief Constable Andy Holt, said:
"Vehicle pursuits are one aspect of the police response to tackling criminal activity in communities and, by their very nature, involve risks that can be managed but never entirely removed.
“Any incident involving a police vehicle which results in an injury to a member of the public is a matter of great concern, and all are investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission. These guidelines for police officers on police pursuits, which have been reviewed with the assistance of the IPCC and now adopted in statute, will ensure consistency and best practice in this area of policing."
