Responding to the Observer artilce (14 July), a national policing spokesman said:
“Across the police service, day in day out, officers of all ranks and in all roles are working to keep the public safe. Part of that is that providing an effective, prompt emergency service and getting to people who need help quickly. Police services strive to achieve this; twelve of the 28 forces who responded have either maintained or increased, the speed of their response time.
“Chief constables continue to work hard to make sure the successive cuts have as little impact as possible on frontline policing.”
