ACPO lead for workforce development, Chief Constable Peter Fahy, comments on number of police officers and staff in England and Wales as at 31 March 2011
ACPO lead for workforce development, Chief Constable Peter Fahy, said:
“Chief officers have been preparing for a constrained funding environment for some time and recruitment has been frozen in the majority of forces in anticipation of cuts to funding. In this context, it is not surprising to see a fall in the numbers of officers and staff. The coming two years are the toughest in terms of the cuts the police service faces and we are likely to see police officer and staff number continue to fall through this period.”
