ACPO responds to the work of national policing units and the future of the Association
ACPO President Sir Hugh Orde said:
“Within the current policing model of 44 geographical police forces across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, there is a requirement for national policing units to ensure an effective and coordinated police response to criminality which is itself increasingly organised on national and international lines. In the absence of other solutions ACPO has provided a route to ensure that is the case.
“Chief Police Officers firmly support the Government’s aim to reposition their professional Association to focus on leadership for the police service. What is vitally important is that national units have a transparent accountability framework which provides public confidence. As President, I have publicly committed to that reform and we hope government will provide the support necessary to secure it.”
