National policing lead for professional standards, Chief Constable Mike Cunningham, has spoken out on the topic of police corruption, particularly that brought about by financial pressures.
"We expect the highest ethical standards of our police officers; there is no justification for corruption of any form, for any reason.
"Research has shown that financial pressures have the potential to make officers more susceptible to corrupting influences.
"There are tens of thousands of police officers and staff serving communities with absolute integrity but police leaders are taking a proactive approach to identifying such risks to integrity and taking action to minimise them as well as responding robustly wherever corruption occurs."
