Following the Governments pledge of £40 million in measures to protect children and young people from sexual abuse, Chief Constable Simon Bailey highlights the importance of funding in safeguarding the vulnerable.
National Police Chiefs' Council Lead for Child Protection, Chief Constable Simon Bailey said:
“The police service is facing unprecedented demands as a result of the increase in the sexual abuse of children and young people. More and more victims now have the confidence to come forward, and we have become more proficient at identifying signs of exploitation. The use of technology to facilitate abuse is adding to this and its involvement in investigations is becoming increasingly more common.
“Additional funding and investment are vital in ensuring we are able to tackle this threat. This pledge by Government will enhance our response and build on the investment that has already been made to protect children and young people from sexual abuse.”
