An independent inquiry has found that failings by social workers and police allowed 1,400 children in Rotherham to suffer years of “appalling abuse”.
National Policing Lead for Child Sexual Exploitation Chief Constable Simon Bailey said:
“Nothing is more important in policing than protecting vulnerable people so it is shocking to read how children and young people were let down by agencies in Rotherham.
“I will carefully consider the report and will ensure that all the failings that have been identified are addressed within the national child sexual exploitation action plan so that we can protect children and young people.”
