Fifth convoy brings total to over 200,000 items donated to support colleagues in Ukraine.
The fifth convoy in a series organised in partnership between the National Police Coordination Centre (NPoCC), National Fire Chiefs’ Council (NFCC), FIRE AID and government, has today left the UK packed with essential equipment to support emergency services in Ukraine.
NPoCC which provides national coordination and support to police forces across the United Kingdom, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories has, over the last 12 months, collated the donations of almost a quarter of a million (238,000) items of policing equipment to date.
The equipment which has been donated by police forces throughout the UK is made up of items which, while serviceable, would otherwise not have been used in local communities. It will be transported to Poland by volunteers from fire and rescue services and from there delivered to Ukrainian law enforcement teams.
The donations include clothing, personal protective equipment and kit which aids searches, war crime investigations and protective security.
The donated policing equipment joins the convoy coordinated by the NFCC which makes up 25 vehicles packed with more than 8,000 items in total.
Chief Superintendent Matt Lawler is Head of NPoCC. He said:
“It has been a privilege for us to be part of this team of partners who have worked so hard to deliver this support to our emergency service colleagues. This will mean they can be better protected and equipped in their role to support the people of Ukraine.”
