Police prepare fresh operational push on mobile criminality

Trivium 7 follows the highly successful Trivium 6, which took place in May 2016. Across the five days of this collaborative operation there were 9,009 vehicles stopped of which 3,274 were foreign-driven. In total Trivium 6 resulted in a total of 7,188 enforcement actions which included penalties issued, warnings given and activities relating to a range of other offences such as violent crime, illegal immigration and murder. Trivium 6 also utilized ANPR technology with 546 activations and logged 529 submissions to other intelligence databases.

Detective Superintendent Paul Keasey, head of the National Roads Policing Intelligence Forum, said: “Over the past three years, Operation Trivium has proved highly effective in disrupting criminal networks active in human trafficking, modern slavery, illegal immigration and a wide range of other crimes.

“Once again we wish to make clear that there is no hiding for criminals and that borders hold no barriers when it comes to bringing about justice.

“Trivium makes a significant contribution to our aims by ensuring a fast and smooth exchange of information through Europol’s secure channels, by close co-operation with partner agencies and by allowing us to work together as one entity to provide a robust and effective response to borderless crime.”

A European Operations Control Centre (EOCC), based in the West Midlands, will be staffed throughout the week. Representatives of Europol will be based here throughout the week, with police officers from Romania and Lithuania also available to check police systems in drivers' home countries to verify details supplied by foreign nationals.

The EOCC will welcome representatives from UK partner organisations including the National Crime Agency (NCA), Home Office Immigration, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Working remotely will be the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA), Department for Work & Pensions, Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NAVCIS), Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), Highways England, Environment Agency and the National Trading Standards Intelligence Team (NTSIT).
